There are a number of accreditation agencies throughout the world. UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service), is but one of these accreditation agencies. However, UKAS was the first such body formed to regulate certification bodies and registrars, such as United Registrar of Systems Ltd.
Consequently, UKAS has a great deal of experience in the method and practises for this type of regulatory work. Indeed, UKAS has been a "prime-mover" in the setting of the codes of practice for the correct operation and monitoring of registrars. In addition, they have assisted other accreditation agencies in formulating their method and controls.
